Frosty the Snowman

This is one of the best Christmas Classics.  It's short and sweet, and has one great song throughout it.

The local town kids finally got out of school on Christmas Eve. Umm excuse me, but why are they still in school on Christmas Eve?! They play around in the snow, with most of these kids wearing shorts and skirts and dresses. That's crazy. During class, a bad magician came in and performed, but failed and made a fool of himself. He got so mad that he threw his magicians hat away. The kids found it and adorned their newly built snow man with it.

He then magically comes to life, exclaiming "Happy Birthday!!" The magician sees this and takes the hat back now that he sees there is magic in it. The kids try and fight him, but its only once the magician's rabbit Hocus steals the hat do the kids get it back. They then proceed to have a parade and party all around the town. They realize there is a problem though. The town is going to warm up and Frosty will then disappear. The leader of this group of kids, Karen decides to take Frosty to the north pole by train. If the paperwork and ticketing was the same as this movie, I would totally work in a train station. The cost comes out to over 3,000 bucks, which Karen, Frosty and Hocus can't afford. They see a refrigerated train compartment headed north so they hop on that. It's filled with frozen cakes and ice cream that look super delicious.

Karen decides to join Frosty on his travels, saying "I'm sure my mom will be fine with it, just so long as I'm back by dinnertime". Totally unrealistic Karen. Frosty and Hocus handle the cold train ride fine, but Karen doesn't and eventually passes out due to the cold. The group gets off the train and finds a group of magical woodland creatures who are decorating their tree to get Santa's attention. Just like in the amazing children's book The Biggest, Most Beautiful Christmas Tree, starring the one and only Nutley! ;)

Anyway, the animals build Karen a fire, and Santa demands to talk to Santa once he arrives, but uh oh! The evil magician has followed them on this journey and in one swift blow, destroys Karen's fire. He's after that hat still! Frosty and Karen slide down a big hill to get away from him and they conveniently find a greenhouse full of tropical poinsettias. Frosty brings Karen inside, but the magician shuts them in! Santa finally arrives and Hocus brings him to the greenhouse where they discover that Frosty has melted into a frostless puddle. Karen is devastated, but Santa comforts her and brings Frosty back to life. He then reprimands the magician. Frosty then returns every Christmas due to the magic of Christmas snow.

I loved this movie as a kid, but watching it now, I couldn't help notice all the ridiculous logic that goes on throughout the movie, which you totally believe as kid. Like Santa knows how to talk to rabbits, and woodland creatures are capable of making a fire.

Andrew's Closing Thought: Absurdly Christmasy

Up Next: Frosty Returns.
