This was my first time ever watching 300. I was pretty worried about how gruesome it would be, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I always love a good war story, because I love seeing what kind of creative military tactics a group will come up with. Well Leonidas and his gang had plenty. I also appreciate when a movie is different and has the super cgi feel, especially when its based off of a graphic novel. The blood wasn't that bad, its just parts like when someone gets a spear through their bicep that I can't handle it. Luckily I had Andrew there telling me when something really gross was about to happen. There were a lot of historical figures in the movie, and I'm not talking about Spartan/Persian figures. Did anyone else realize that the old creepy men in charge of the oracle looked shockingly like The Emperor from Star Wars? And that the Persian messenger who gets killed in front of the wall of dead men talked like Bill Cosby? The biggest shocker was that the Councilman who is the Queen's ally was actually Abe Lincoln. Now can I just say a few obvious things that we were all thinking when we saw this: Michael Fassbender!!
I'm pretty sure Xerces was a drag queen. The Persian Immortals looked like ninjas! The queen is awesome, especially her hair.
In any kind of war movie, the one thing that I really can't stand is when horses die. Even CGI ones.
Around the time that this movie came out, I was taking a Western Civilization class, and we actually learned about the real history of this movie. So while watching it, I knew the fate of the 300, but at the very end of the movie, when all of Sparta and Greece go after the Persians I don't know who won. So it's a dumb question, but who was it? I assume Persia lost?

Overall I really liked this movie once I could get over all the gore stuff, and if I were to watch it again I would be ready for all those moments. There was a strong female lead and an awesome army with cool military moves. It reminded me a lot of Gladiator. The two women kind of look alike, Maximus and Leonidas both yell a lot, and the field of wheat! I also really liked the way it was filmed. When the oracle is going all crazy, that was filmed with her being underwater!! Pretty cool.
Andrews Closing Thoughts: Just as good as I remember.
