Apollo 13

This is the movie I have been waiting for. I've been waiting this whole time to get to this movie. I've never seen it before! I know, some of you out there are thinking "How can such a wonderful girl with such great taste in movies never have seen Apollo 13 until now?" Well the answer is simple. When this movie came out I remember my family renting it, but I just thought it was too long and boring and I didn't really understand it. Then the hundreds of times it's been on tv since, I just haven't caught it at the very beginning. So I have seen a few pieces of the movie, but never the whole thing. Since it is such an epic and wonderful movie, I was extremely happy the day that Andrew bought this.

First off, it's got such an amazing cast and director that things just can't go wrong with this. Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, Gary Sinise, Kevin Bacon, Ed Harris, Bill Paxton, and the real star of the show Clint Howard. It's just so shocking to see how young all of these guys are. Bacon looks like he just stepped out of Footloose!

So, we have Hanks, Bacon and Paxton go into space to land on the moon. Gary was suppose to be on the flight, but was predicted to get the measles, so Bacon replaced him.  It's ok, because he saves the day! I was a little grossed out after they settled down from launching into space, and Paxton just vomits everywhere. Space, gravity-free vomit. It looked like the same stuff you make in science class when you are trying to make your own silly puddy. Well, while doing some routine system checks, part of their ship explodes, which then starts leaking all their oxygen. Uh oh. They don't get to go on the moon anymore, because they will be lucky if they even get back to earth alive. After days in their freezing space ship, tensions start to rise as well as Paxton's temperature. He's not doing too well and just makes me feel like he's a 12 year old boy because he's so sick and sad. Well Mission Control really did a good job of thinking outside the box and helping save them. They had to turn off all their power to conserve energy for a while so they would have enough for re entry. Then their CO2 filter becomes too full and so they have to Mcgyver how to fit a square filter fit into a cylinder one. What do you know?! Duct tape saves them.  After a lot of doubts and sticky situations arise, they finally land safely into the South Pacific. Hooray! The best part is that this was a totally true story! I love these kinds of movies.

For 3 Ninja fans out there, I'm not going to forget to point out that the actor who plays Tom Hanks' oldest son is the one and only Colt!

This movie is awesome. That's really all that can be said about it I think.I was really impressed with how real the shuttle launch looked. In response to this, Andrew said "There's one thing about Ron Howard, he does nothing half ass." If you haven't seen it yet, go out right now and rent/buy it. Excuse me, I have to go read the IMDB trivia for this movie now.
